Empower Her boosts women’s skills and confidence through free phlebotomy training, building clinical ability, employability, and long‑term independence
Empower Her is committed to creating meaningful opportunities that help women build confidence, develop practical skills, and move closer to long‑term independence. As part of this mission, we recently delivered free phlebotomy training to women in our community. This programme was designed to equip participants with essential clinical skills that can open doors to healthcare roles and strengthen their employability.
Phlebotomy is an important skill within the health and social care sector, and gaining this knowledge can significantly improve access to job opportunities. During the training, participants received hands‑on guidance from experienced trainers who created a supportive and encouraging learning environment. Many of the women were engaging with clinical equipment for the first time, and their progress throughout the session was inspiring.
The training covered several key areas that are vital for safe and effective practice. These included safe venepuncture techniques, infection prevention and control, specimen handling and labelling, and professional communication. Each participant had the opportunity to practise these skills directly, helping them build both competence and confidence. The session also focused on developing the soft skills needed in healthcare settings, such as attention to detail, empathy, and maintaining calm under pressure.
For many women, this training represents more than just learning a new technique. It is a step toward financial stability, a pathway into further education, and a chance to explore new career possibilities. Empower Her continues to invest in programmes that remove barriers, promote learning, and empower women to take control of their futures. By offering free, accessible training opportunities, we aim to support women who may not otherwise have access to professional development.
We are incredibly proud of every participant who took part in this session. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and willingness to learn reflect the strength and resilience of the women we serve. We also extend our appreciation to our trainers and volunteers, whose expertise and commitment made this programme possible.
Empower Her remains dedicated to providing training, workshops, and support services that uplift women and strengthen our community. More information about our ongoing programmes can be found on our website, along with details on how to get involved or support our work.
